"travel far enough, you meet yourself"

Once you fall in love with Mussoorie, there is no falling out of it. It’s a place that I have frequented since childhood being only 290 kilometres up north from Delhi, yet every time I go back, the magic holds strong.
Beautiful monsoon solo trip to a small but beautiful hill station called ' Mussoorie' . I have a very old connection with this hill station because It is my hometown. I have been to this place a number of times. But this was my first ever solo trip with my fellow bloggers to the hill station.

over the hills and far away

"It is always the same with mountains. Once you have lived with them for any length of time, you belong to them. There is no escape" – Ruskin Bond. These beautiful lines came to my mind on the journey.

Sterling Mussoorie Resort is located 2.5 km from the Mussoorie town. It’s a patch of hillside land, combed by 300 steps that connect various parts of the 5-acre Sterling Holidays resort. Most rooms overlook the alluring Doon valley and every room has a balcony or a sit-out to enjoy the view with a local brew.
Tantailzing activities, delectable food paired with some truly sumptuous view are just some of the things on the menu, customized specially for the guests

                                                                      DAY-2

Lambi Dehar Mines - The haunted place

Right next to Mussorie, on the outskirts, situated in a valley are the Lambi Dehar mines, which very few of the thousands that visit Mussorie each year have ever heard of. Even in Mussorie there are people who would laugh if you asked them whether the mines were indeed haunted and would call the stories as utter nonsense but majority of the locals, especially the ones living closer to mines, would tell you to stay away because the mines are now believed to be home to a witch who has claimed several lives in the past.
Like every other so called “haunted” place in the world, even Lambi Dehar mines have had their share of misfortune, spread over several decades. But that I believe is case with every mining operation anywhere. Mining and accidents, serious or fatal, go hand in hand. There however are beliefs, claims, and facts that were twisted over the time in favor of superstitions.

Mussoorie, the Queen of Hills is named after the plants Mansur ( a variety of shrubs ) that are grown here.

The Lambi Dehar mines in Mussoorie has an agony story attached to it which dates back to the early 1990s . It is said that almost 50,000 people worked in this mine during that time and most of them had an agonizing death ,by choking blood, due to the improper mining techniques. The mines were shut since then but the ill fortune of the Lambi Dehar mines in Mussoorie doesn't seem to elude it!

The trek starts right across the road from where the our bus drops off near. The trek seemed anything but easy at the start :P I got into a steady pace soon though and the going got easy slowly.  Make sure you have your fill of drinking water too

Visiting Sainji -The Corn Village near Mussoorie
Our tour guide for the trip suggested us to visit Sainji – The Corn Village of India near Mussoorie.

During the second day of our trip while we were in Mussoorie we moved a bit farther from the Kempty Falls and reached Sainji.

Sainji is located in the Uttarakhand state of India and is near Mussoorie. The driving time from Mussoorie is around 1 hour. You get a lot of local transport options to take you to Sainji. You may also book a cab on hourly/daily basis to take you there.

While on the way to Sainji from Mussoorie we could see lush green farms with crops harvesting as it was the peak season. The route from Mussoorie to this place is a traveler’s bliss. We took almost 1 hour to reach Sainji and as soon as we reached the entrance of this village, we knew what we were in for. The village entrance is marked by a huge gate like structure, all covered with corns, showing the importance of corns in the village. The village houses and all buildings are covered with corns and it is being used as a piece of art in every house.

The very first sight of the Sainji village made a deep imprint on my mind.  The rustic look, the earthy smell and the colourful houses were enticing enough. It was a sheer visual delight. The golden coloured hung corns dominated the tiny village situated on a hilltop.

If you pan around, all one can see are the bunch of corns hung upside down in each corner. Luckily I was there at the right time, since September and October are considered as the harvesting months.

Best Time to visit Sainji:
The best time to visit Sainji is from March to June.

One of the everyone's favorite place is MAGGI POINT.
